Tim McCready is a business consultant, business and political writer and commentator, conference MC and moderator. Tim has held various roles across international trade, strategy, capital raising and business development in New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Europe and Asia. He has some great travel stories and makes a delicious custard square.

Current roles

  • Strategy & Development Consultant for New Zealand Story Group, which aims to expand New Zealand’s reputation and value internationally.
  • Venture Partner at BioPacific Partners, working with some of the world’s largest multinationals on strategy and growth in the Asia-Pacific region and with government and innovators on strategy and capital raising.
  • Business writer and commentator for the New Zealand Herald‘s special business reports with a focus on trade, investment, politics and innovation.
  • MC for business events including the China Business Summit, US Business Summit, Deloitte Top 200 Awards, Mood of the Boardroom and Project Auckland.
  • Lead judge for the Westpac Auckland Business Awards (Innovation & Strategy).
  • Host of Too Much Talk, a local body politics podcast from OnehungaFM
  • Independent assessor for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Endeavour Fund, and on the expert review panel for Callaghan Innovation.
  • Capital raising workshop facilitator for Callaghan Innovation‘s HealthTech Activator programme, tailored for the specific challenges faced by HealthTech companies.

During 2021, Tim was the APEC 2021 New Zealand CEO Summit’s Content Producer. The gathering of the world’s most powerful CEOs, business leaders, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, prime ministers and presidents of APEC economies was broadcast from the Aotea Centre in central Auckland on 11 and 12 November 2021. There were 91 speakers, including 10 world leaders.

Previously, Tim worked at New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE), the New Zealand Government’s international business development agency. While there, Tim helped New Zealand businesses enter new markets and expand international revenue, and most recently as Regional Investment Manager in London, where he led Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) investment activities. He was also chair of the Asia New Zealand Foundation’s Leadership Network Advisory Board.

Tim has a Master in Bioscience Enterprise (Hons.) and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Auckland, and completed the Te Kākano Māori language course at AUT University (pass with distinction).
